RLHEC and Internet2
"The advent of Internet2 permits uninterrupted video streaming of the RLHEC's huge 3-D video files to outside locations where Internet2 is available. The future of RLHEC's health programming will include transmitting interactive learning environments through Internet2. As a result, students in geographically remote regions will learn the benefits of making smart health decisions every day."

- Julian T. Peebles, President, RLHEC

About Internet2

What is Internet2?

Internet2 is a consortium led by 207 universities in partnership with government and industry to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies for research and higher education, with the greater overall aim of accelerating the creation of tomorrow’s Internet. Internet2 recreates the partnerships among academia, industry and government that resulted in the creation of today’s Internet.

What is the RLHEC’s involvement with Internet2?

The Ruth Lilly Health Education Center is connected to the Internet2 hub located on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus. Internet2 is the world’s fastest Internet connection. The RLHEC is the only Internet2 Collaborative Affiliate in the state of Indiana.

How does Internet2 membership benefit the RLHEC and its clientele?

As part of the RLHEC’s Health Education for the 21st Century initiative, the Center is developing 3-D videos for its educational presentations. Prior to the advent of Internet2, viewing such extremely large video files outside of the RLHEC would be impossible. But now, uninterrupted video streaming through Internet2 to locations outside of the Center with Internet2 connection is a reality. This includes the ability to transmit interactive learning environments through Internet2 and deliver them to students in geographically remote areas.

Internet2 membership benefits the RLHEC teaching staff in particular by providing access to medical data produced by researchers at many of the nation’s prestigious universities, corporations and organizations. The Center’s membership in Internet2 promises to strengthen and deepen existing collaborative efforts with fellow members such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and National Science Foundation (NSF).
