Donors
Since the RLHEC's beginning, community partnerships have been essential to our mission. Seventy percent of the Center’s total revenue is derived through grants and donations. The remaining 30 percent is provided through admission fees. The Center is named to honor Mrs. Ruth Lilly’s generous gift to the building fund. There is no affiliation between the Center and the Lilly family, Lilly Endowment or Eli Lilly and Company.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who teaches the programs?

All classes are taught by one of our professional health educators. Each RLHEC instructor holds a degree in health education, health sciences, nursing or education.

In what format are the subjects taught?

Our classes are entertaining and educational! By experiencing larger–than–life 3–dimensional models, voting buttons, high–tech audio and visual aids, a life–size talking manikin (TAM) and other multimedia elements, students become actively involved in their own learning.

How much does it cost to attend programs?

The actual cost of each program is $10 per person, although each student is only charged $3. The remainder comes from gifts from corporations, foundations, service clubs and individuals concerned about Hoosiers' health. The Center welcomes your interest in supporting our health education mission.

Do you take only group reservations?

The Center is designed for group learning, although individual reservations can be made by including individuals with another group. Every effort is made to combine small groups to avoid the minimum fee of $72 per group.

Can parents attend with their child's class?

Parents are welcome to attend if space is available. Please note that parents will be charged the $3 per person program fee. Parent's should check with their child's teacher prior to the scheduled program date.

If my students attended a program last year, will they see the same presentation if I bring them again this year?

No. All RLHEC programs are differentiated by grade level. It is possible for a student to attend programs from preschool to grade 12 and never see the same program twice!

Are there after-school classes?

Yes! We offer Just Say Know!, Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs and other specialty programming during after-school hours.

Can class times be adjusted to fit our schedule?

Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:15 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Classes are also held on Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. Due to time constraints and the popularity of our courses, classes fill up quickly. Schedule early to reserve the most convenient time for your group.

Can classes be taught at our location?

Yes! Outreach programs are specifically designed for off-site presentations. To learn more, see our Outreach Program List.

If time permits, can we attend more than one program?

Yes! It is possible to view up to two programs in one day. Keep in mind that experiencing two programs in one day is a large amount of information for students to absorb.

Is there a discount for seeing more than one program during the school year?

Yes! The $3 fee for programs is reduced to $2 per person for any group returning to the Center during the same school year.

Do all programs include TAM?

No. Programs that do feature our very popular TAM - the Transparent Anatomical Manikin - include Preschool Pals, Kinderhealth, Happy Healthy Me, and Human Growth and Development.

Why doesn't the Center have a male TAM?

TAM is intended to share knowledge of all body organs and systems. Since the wonder of conception and birth occurs in the female body, TAM is designed as a female.

Can we combine two classes from one school?

Classes of the same grade level are often combined. Combining classes of different grade levels is difficult and is only possible for certain programs. These groupings work best: 1st–3rd, 4th–6th, 7th–8th, and 9th–12th grades.

Can we bring grades K–6 for one program?

No. Our programs are designed for specific development levels.

Can my class eat lunch at the Center before or after the program?

Although the Center has no lunchroom facility, we do have a small outdoor picnic area that you are free to use, weather permitting. Buses may remain in the parking lot while students eat sack lunches. Nearby, there are fast food restaurants and public parks with picnic tables and shelter.

What happens if our bus is delayed?

The program will be shortened to fit within your scheduled time period.

Is the Center open to groups other than school groups?

Many groups attend classes at the Center, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, home-schooled students and summer camp groups.

Is the Center open during summer months?

Yes! Specially designed programs are added to our regular programming during the summer months. These classes include more interactive activities such as relay races, "Jeopardy" and role-playing. Most summer programs are age–appropriate for groups of combined grade levels.

Are boys and girls separated in the human growth and development programs?

The Human Growth and Development programs at the Center are specially designed to be taught in a coeducational environment. However, students can be separated upon teacher request.

Can parents see programs before their children if the content area is sensitive?

Yes. Parents who would like to preview a program before their child participates can arrange to do so by calling the Center.

Is the Center accessible to disabled persons?

Yes.

What happens when there is a weather delay or a school cancellation?

We will make every effort to reschedule for a later date.

Are we responsible for payment if we don't show up?

If the Center is not notified at least 24 hours in advance, you will be responsible for payment of the programming you reserved. However, you will not be charged in the event of school closings due to emergencies such as inclement weather. Please keep in mind that we attempt to serve as many Hoosiers as possible; a no–show results in a missed opportunity for another group.
