Voice Your Choice: Drugs, Decisions and You

Course Description

This program incorporates factual information with life skills training in a game approach. Students practice and identify communication skills through role-playing. Two categories - communication and a grab-bag choice - are included in each program. Teachers can select the other three categories from among: alcohol, inhalants, marijuana, tobacco, cocaine, LSD, and drugs and the law. Facts are reinforced throughout the game with visual aids and activities.

Goal

Students will increase knowledge about harmful drugs and will improve their understanding of communication skills associated with resistance.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the effects of at least two harmful drugs on the body.
  • Recognize and identify three types of communication – passive, aggressive, and assertive.
  • Recognize self–responsibility in decision making.
  • Differentiate facts and myths of harmful drugs.
  • Gain respect for their own capabilities as communicators.
