Up In Smoke

9-12 grades

Course Description

This program incorporates factual information on tobacco and life choices. Students will recognize the harmful effects of tobacco on their health as well as how their choices affect their future. Visuals, a bingo game and problem solving are used to reinforce the message.

Goal

Students will understand the dangers associated with tobacco use and the importance of making wise decisions now to ensure a healthier future.

Objectives:

  • Identify cost associated with smoking and chewing tobacco.
  • Recognize role of advertisement and its affect on society.
  • Identify the effect nicotine has on the brain in relation to addiction.
  • Describe the effect tobacco has on the respiratory and circulatory systems.
  • Recognize how the choices one makes today can affect one’s future.
