Course Description

Students learn how family history plays a role in cancer and how different risk factors are related to testicular cancer. Participants use anatomical models to simulate testicular self-exams and discuss steps to take when a lump is suspected. (Maximum 30 men.)

Goal

Students will learn the value of monthly testicular self-exams and the importance of performing the exams properly.

Objectives

  • Recognize the importance of knowing one’s own personal health history.
  • Review the anatomy and the function of the testicles.
  • Describe the elementary cancer disease process.
  • Identify basic facts of testicular cancer.
  • Perform a testicular self-exam using an anatomical model.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward testicular self-exams.
  • Identify actions to take if a suspected lump is found.
  • Name the three common methods of treatment for testicular cancer.
  • Examine possible risk factors for testicular cancer.
  • Discuss the relevance of making testicular self-exams a regular monthly routine.
