Talk It Out

Grades 9–12
60–90 Minute Program

Course Description

This class will help students identify warning signs of depression and suicidal ideation. Students will be able to become acquainted with the resources available for those suffering from thoughts of suicide. Video clips, keypad questions and hands-on activities will assist the learning process.

Goal

Students will develop a greater awareness, knowledge, and understanding of suicide prevention.

Learning Objectives

  • Define suicide.
  • Indicate how suicide affects friends, family, and peers.
  • Recognize warning signs of suicide ideation.
  • Explain that suicide is preventable.
  • Identify ways to help a peer, friend, or family member who may be depressed or may be having suicidal thoughts.
  • Recognize resources that are available to help those with depression or suicidal thoughts.
