STOP: No Excuse for Abuse

Grade 7
45-60 Minute Program

Course Description

Students get a better understanding of dating violence through the use of video, music, key pad voting and discussions. This interactive program focuses on the skills needed to break the cycle of domestic violence and to develop healthy relationships.

Goal

Students understand the components of healthy and unhealthy relationships.

Objectives

  • Define relationship abuse.
  • Discuss types of abuse.
  • Identify the cycle of violence.
  • Recognize characteristics of teen dating violence.
  • Indicate how violence impacts individuals, families, and communities.
  • Discuss the significance of a positive support system.
  • Explain how to break the cycle of violence.
  • Identify characteristics of a healthy relationship.
  • Examine the importance of assertive communication skills in all relationships.
