STOP: Know What’s Right

Grade 5
45-60 Minute Program

Course Description

This interactive program focuses on the skills needed to break the cycle of domestic violence and to develop healthy relationships. Students engage in a variety of activities, including role plays, keypad voting, and discussions for the purpose of reinforcing these messages.

Goal

Students understand the components of healthy and unhealthy relationships.

Objectives

  • Define relationship abuse.
  • Identify the cycle of violence.
  • Describe types of abuse.
  • Distinguish the difference between violence and discipline.
  • Indicate how violence impacts individuals, families, and communities.
  • Discuss the significance of a positive support system.
  • Identify how societal gender roles/norms influence health behaviors.
  • Explain how to break the cycle of violence.
  • Demonstrate ways to communicate care, consideration, and respect of self and others.
  • Review skills necessary to make and maintain healthy relationships.
