Course Description
This interactive program focuses on the digestive system,
nutrition and habits that affect health. “Chris,” the video's voice personality, gives
students an overview of the body's anatomy and physiology.
Models of the cell and digestive system help students
visualize what happens to the food they eat. Hands–on
activities, experiments and discussion related to digestion
are incorporated to reinforce wellness.
Goal
Students learn about the function and care of the digestive system, including proper nutrition and dental care.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize a cell as being the basic unit of life.
- List oxygen, water and food as requirements for life of all cells.
- Define digestion as a process of breaking down food into substances that cells need and use.
- Chart the course of food as it passes through the digestive system, explaining the function of each digestive organ.
- Identify foods containing enough fiber to help the digestive system work well and reduce the risk of some diseases.
- Acknowledge the relationship between stress and digestion and provide appropriate examples of how to deal with anger.
- Associate the need for eating a variety of foods with recommendations for daily number of servings from the basic food groups.
- Organize foods into basic groups and recognize the importance of meal planning.
- Identify tooth anatomy and ways to care for teeth and gums.
