Course Description

Scouts practice appropriate first aid steps for treating bleeding, burns, respiratory emergencies and poisoning. Items in a well-stocked first-aid kit are identified and their appropriate use explained. Scouts also discuss water safety and common sense rules for safe swimming.

Goal

Boy Scouts appreciate the importance of first aid in emergency situations.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize and identify common emergencies and appropriate actions to take.
  • Practice first aid for respiratory emergencies and severe bleeding.
  • List items that are included in a first-aid kit, and show how the items are used.
  • Identify appropriate first aid steps for treating burns and poisonings.
  • Discuss safe swimming practices.

Complements the requirements for the Readyman Activity Badge.
