Webelos – Grades 4–5

Course Description

The long-term benefits of physical fitness are presented to students. Physical fitness is promoted by having Webelos exercise at various stations and marking results. The relationship of diet and how it effects an individual's growth is also presented. Scouts learn how to plan a balanced diet using the Food Guide Pyramid.

Goal

To provide Webelos with a clear understanding of fitness and its importance in one’s quality of life.

Objectives

  • Define fitness.
  • Describe the basic components of fitness.
  • List benefits of fitness.
  • Recognize how to improve each of the specific fitness components through exercise stations.
  • Recognize the need to assess personal levels of fitness before starting an exercise program.
  • Identify parts of a workout and describe why each part is important to overall health.
  • Discuss the importance of proper nutrition.
  • Recognize the importance of balancing caloric intake with caloric expenditure.

Complements the requirements for the Personal Fitness Badge.
