My Healthy Body

Grade 2
90 Minute Program

Course Description

Projected animation and three-dimensional models help teach students how their sense organs work and why it is important to protect and take care of them. Activities allow students to test their ability to smell, hear, and touch, experience sign language, and feel Braille. Children gain an appreciation for similarities and differences as they discover the wonder and function of the human body. The importance of nutrition and dental care is also reviewed.

Goal

Students learn about the function of the five senses, ways to protect the senses, healthy food choices, and proper care of teeth.

Objectives

  • Name the five senses.
  • Describe, in simple terms, the anatomy and physiology of each of the five senses.
  • Recall examples of common sensory dysfunction.
  • Give examples of how to protect each of the senses.
  • Identify fruits, vegetables, and grains as healthy snack food choices.
  • Classify foods into basic groups and recall recommended daily number of servings for each group using MyPyramid.gov.
  • Tell in own words the importance of brushing, flossing, dental visits, and mouth guards as they relate to the proper care of teeth.
