Healthy Habits

Brownies - Grades 1-3

Course Description

This program focuses on the relationship between harmful habits such as smoking and helpful habits such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and growth; especially as each relates to the structure and care of bones, muscles, and teeth. Girl scouts learn about germs and the importance of washing their hands. Girl Scouts also learn how to cope with different feelings in healthy ways.

Goal Girl Scouts appreciate the importance of practicing healthy habits such as exercise, good nutrition, not smoking, and personal hygiene.

Objectives

  • Discuss healthy ways to deal with a variety of feelings.
  • Recognize smoking as bad for your heart.
  • Identify physical activity as the work bones and muscles have to do to stay strong and grow.
  • Recall high calcium foods that help build strong bones.
  • Practice categorizing foods according to food groups.
  • Demonstrate how germs can be spread and discuss the importance of good hygiene.
  • List brushing and flossing as essential to oral health.
