Fit for Life

Grades 7 to 12

Course Description

The long-term benefits of physical activity and nutrition are promoted to students. Effects of personal choices are discussed in regards to sleep, stress, and nutritional trends. The role of diet and physical activity in disease reduction is reinforced.

Goal

To provide students with a clear understanding of wellness and its importance in one’s quality of life.

Objectives

  • Recognize the need to assess personal levels of wellness before changing any physical activity or dietary behaviors.
  • Develop awareness and appreciation for individual diversity within groups.
  • Analyze the effect of stress and rest on overall health.
  • Describe the basic components of physical fitness and why each is important to overall health.
  • Develop awareness of factors that influence personal food choices.
  • Recognize the need for positive dietary choices in obtaining an optimal level of health.
  • State the importance of keeping life in balance with healthy food choices, physical activity, and other health behaviors.
