Drugs in American Society

Grades 9 - 12

Course Description

This advanced program in drug education helps students recognize how the use of drugs has an impact on the health of the individual, family, and community. Students will identify many social and legal consequences of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The influences of advertising and music are discussed as students explore personal attitudes and beliefs. Information concerning chemical dependency, decision making, and personal responsibility is also included in the presentation.

Goal

Students will understand and accept that the use of drugs impacts the
individuals, the family and the community.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize how the effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs have an impact on the health of the individual, the family and the community.
  • Identify factors that influence the body’s response to alcohol.
  • Analyze the dangers of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
  • Identify social and legal consequences of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
  • Recognize the influence of advertising on decisions.
  • Develop an understanding of responsibility for personal behaviors.
