Course Description
Students examine the influences on popular body images in society. Through hands on learning and discussions students identify physical activity levels common among age groups. Groups assess fat content in snack choices and explore the benefits of a diet low in fat and sugar. The importance of calcium intake is discussed through the use of visuals. Students get a chance to taste and compare foods with varying nutritional value.**
Goal
To provide students with a clear understanding of fitness and nutrition and its importance in one’s quality of life.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the factors that influence popular body image.
- Recognize the difference between image and reality as it relates to body image.
- Discuss the positive and negative aspects of dietary fat.
- Identify healthful physical activities for people of all ages.
- Recall the concepts of safe weight management through physical activity and healthy eating.
- Identify how to use MyPyramid.gov
- State key concepts to identify healthier snack and fast food choices.
- Explain the need for reducing excess sugar in the diet.
- Recall the importance of calcium intake during adolescence.
- Rate and compare the tastes of various foods
** This is an optional day three event. The food cost for day three is an additional $2 per student.
