NAHEC's Richard B. Rush Outstanding Innovative Project Award

In 2003, the RLHEC's unique Body Talk program for middle-school students received this prestigious award from the National Association of Health Education Centers.

Body Talk is a three-day outreach program designed to provide middle-school students with a clear understanding of fitness and nutrition and their importance to the quality of life. Body Talk focuses on healthy body and fitness levels for teens, healthy food choices and the importance of calcium. The program's day one module is "Health Body and Fitness Levels of Teens." Day two covers "Healthy Food Choices." On the program's concluding day, students get to enjoy testing various healthy snacks.

The Richard B. Rush Outstanding Innovative Project Award criteria is threefold. To be considered, an innovative project must:

  • Address a compelling community need
  • Show a vision to improve quality of life
  • Indicate ongoing efforts to support health education
